DrDane > 5264 Sunrise over Fog, Puget Sound, WA - Aug, 2006. The rising sun blazes orange above the spine of the North Cascades, illuminating the thick sea of fog that crept in overnight to blanket the entire sound. Mt. Baker, a 10781 ft latent volcano, rises on the left, and the Seattle metro area lies submerged on the right.
DrDane > 5993 Emigrant Valley Sunrise, Ashland, OR - Nov, 2006. Fields, mountains and clouds are aglow with the light of the rising sun. The air is cool and fresh, and all is still. The fields of Corp Ranch are in the foreground.
DrDane > 0661 McKenzie River Cascade - Cascade Mtns, Oregon - Sept 2005. Tumbling through the dense Cascade Mountain forest, this enchanting river casts a spell on all who stop to gaze upon its beauty. And yes, that color really is in the water!
DrDane > 7424 Snowy Sunset, Ashland, OR - Feb, 2007. Fresh snow blankets the western shore of Emigrant Lake, with the colors of an exquisite sunset reflefcted in the still water. The soft silence enhances the beautiful winter scene.
DrDane > 10684 Vernal Falls & Rainbow - a sheet of water plunges down a sheer granite cliff in Yosemite National Park, California - early May, 2007. A rainbow shimmers in the blowing mist lit by the late afternoon sun. Nothing here stays dry for long , but it's gorgeous and exhilarating!
DrDane > 1004 Pfieffer Sunset, Big Sur, CA - Nov, 2003. This deliciously lengthy sunset has been gracing the sky for nearly half an hour, and the colors are reflected beautifully in the wet sand. What a blessing to be present for this awe-inspiring experience! Photo Notes: A 10-second time exposure softened the moving water. The crescent moon was taken separately and added later in Photoshop.
DrDane > 9520 Leopard Lily with fresh Anthers, Weed, California - July, 2005. Early morning light filters through the trees to illuminate this elegant creation. Since the flower is freshly opened, the long, slender anthers (pollen-bearing parts) are still silky-smooth in appearance. Leopard lilies grow along forest streams or near springs, while the similar Tiger Lily grows in drier areas.
Common name: Leopard Lily, Panther Lily.
Scientific name: Lilium pardalinum
Plant family: Liliaceae (Lily family)
DrDane > 15266 Garden Magic - Cilantro Flowers Closeup, Ashland, OR - June 2008. Vibrant with spring's exhuberant energy, these tiny cilantro flowers bask in the early morning sun. It's curious that none of the flowers open all at once, but unfold a bit at a time - rather like us humans. This is a serious closeup of this small group, which is part of a much larger flower head. The pinkish-lavender parts are the male anthers, which will soon open to release their pollen. From the right angle, they look like miniature hearts! There's a saying, "Take time to smell the flowers." To that I would add, "and look at them closely - you will probably see something you've never noticed before!"
DrDane > 8331 Beavertail Cactus Flower in Joshua Tree National Park in Soutthern California, May, 2005. The vibrant red stamen (male) surround the cream-colored pistil (female), and insects carry the pollen to different flowers. This cactus is living in a dry wash and the angle of the early morning sunlight leaves the background in shadow. Stillness pervades the landscape - it is so peaceful here.
